Brandi Dawson and Hayley Martin Earn All-Region Honors

ANGOLA, IND. -- Trine University women's basketball players Brandi Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) and Hayley Martin (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) have been selected to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Teams. Dawson was a first-team pick and Martin earned second-team honors.

Dawson and Martin are both repeat selections to the All-Region teams with both players earning the same awards as last season.

The duo played impact roles this year in helping the Thunder post a record-setting 26 wins (26-4) along with making an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament "Sweet 16" for the first time in program history since joining the NCAA in only its second all-time trip to the NCAA postseason. Trine also shared the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic AssociationRegular-Season Championship this winter, claiming its second overall MIAA title in back-to-back seasons.

Individually, Dawson adds to her list of postseason honors having already garnered both first-team All-MIAA accolades and was the conference "Most Valuable Player" for the second consecutive season. Dawson played in all 30 games, and started 29, and led the team in scoring with a 14.6 points per game average. She also led the team, and the MIAA, in field goal shooting at an impressive 60.6 percent (183-of-302). Her field goal percentage also currently ranks as the fifth highest nationally and is the third highest percentage in a single season in Trine history. Dawson recorded four double-doubles in 2017-18 and scored in double figures in all but four games with seven games of 20 or more points and a season-high 29-point effort in the season-opener against Defiance (Ohio) College.

In addition to her impressive shooting and scoring totals, Dawson recorded a team-high 185 total rebounds (52 offensive and 133 defensive) and was second in rebounding average at 6.2 boards per game. She also led the team in free-throws made (70) and free-throw attempts (95) to finish with a 73.7 shot percentage. Dawson was third in assists with 45 and was second in both blocked shots (16) and steals (34), defensively.

In three seasons with the program, Dawson has already become a member of the Trine 1,000-point club and currently sits seventh all-time with 1,171 career points. She has a 14.1 lifetime scoring average which also ranks seventh all-time. Dawson also ranks in the programs all-time top-15 in several other statistical categories including: games started (4th - 82), blocked shots (t-6th - 54), field goals made (5th - 484), field goal attempts (11th - 904) and field goal percentage (4th - .535).

After missing the first three games of the season due to injury, Martin returned and started every game since (27 games). She finished second on the team in scoring at 11.0 ppg. and shot 45.7 percent (116-of-254) overall. Martin was also a threat from long range finishing second on the team in three-pointers made (20) and attempts (71). In addition, she led the team in free-throw percentage at 76.3 percent after converting 45-of-59 attempts.

Martin had four games where she finished with a double-double and scored in double figures in 14 games that included a season-high 21 points in a win against University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Martin's biggest pressence came on the boards and as a defender as she led the team in rebounding average with 6.3 rpg. having grabbed 169 total boards (25 offensive and 144 defensive). She led both the team and the MIAA in blocked shots with 58 which ranked as the second most in a single-season at Trine. She fell just six blocks shy of her own single-season record of 64 blocks which she had last season and owns three of the top six single-season block totals.

For her career, Martin played in 81 games and started every game to rank sixth all-time in that category. She will also leave her name on severall other all-time statistical lists, including the all-time scoring list as a 1,000-point scorer. She ends her career at Trine as the program's 11th-leading scorer with 1,118 career points. She had a 13.8 ppg. lifetime average which is the eighth best in program history. Martin also ranks in the top-15 in multiple shooting categories including being seventh in field goals made (444), 10th in field goal attempts (912) and 12th in field goal percentage (.487).

On the glass, Martin ended her career with 523 total rebounds to rank 13th all-time and her 6.5 rpg. average is tied for sixth best. Defensively, Martin is the program's all-time leader in blocked shots with 164 and averaged a program-best 2.0 blocks per game.
