DeBelly Named WGCA All-American Scholar

2016 Jul 12

Trine's Julia DeBelly has been named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association, the organization announced.

DeBelly earned her second-consecutive recognition as an All-American Scholar. To be selected to the All-America Scholar team, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and been a significant contributor on her team. DeBelly has excelled in the classroom as a biomedical engineering major at Trine and earned three all-conference honors.

DeBelly's academic work has resulted in two recognitions on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Academic Honor Roll. In addition to her efforts in the classroom, DeBelly has served as Kappa Sigma Alpha sorority's philanthropy chair. Included among the organization's numerous philanthropic efforts is an annual dinner and silent auction to benefit Make A Wish Foundation.

The 2015 fall season saw DeBelly earn All-MIAA Second Team honors for the third-straight season. DeBelly finished the fall with the ninth-best scoring average in the MIAA in conference rounds. Her performance helped lead the Thunder to a fourth-place finish in the conference and a third-consecutive berth in the MIAA Spring Qualifier.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.

Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent. The WGCA recognized 828 student-athletes across all levels of collegiate competition as All-American Scholars this year.
