Dick performing in jazz ensemble concert

Trine University's jazz ensembles, under the direction of Prof. Brian Derek, adjunct music faculty, will present their spring concert beginning at 3 p.m. April 22 in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Among the students performing as part of the groups is Joshua Dick, a electrical engineering major from South Bend.

The Jazz Combo will perform "Lady Bird" by Tadd Dameron, "Cantaloupe Island" by Herbie Hancock, "Blue Bossa" by Kenny Dorham, "My Favorite Things" by Richard Rodgers, "Butterfly" by Herbie Hancock, "Norwegian Wood" by John Lennon, "Night and Day" by Cole Porter and "Cherokee" by Ray Noble.

The Big Band will perform "Blue Brothers Revue," arranged by Roger Holmes; "Autumn Leaves" by Johnny Mercer, arranged by Peter Blair; "The Girl from Ipanema" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Mark Taylor; "Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock, arranged by Michael Sweeney; "Moondance" by Van Morrison, arranged by George Shutack; "Take Five" by Paul Desmond, arranged by Dave Wolpe; " 'B' is for Blues" by George Shutack; "Brazil" by Ary Barroso, arranged by Dave Wolpe; "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix, arranged by Roger Holmes; "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" by Robert Lamm, arranged by Mark Taylor; and "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul, arranged by John Higgins.

Between the Jazz Combo and Big Band performances, Soraya Ariana Colyer-Mohamadi, a senior from Coldwater, Michigan, and her instructor, Laura Dallman, music adjunct faculty, will perform "Little Blues Concerto" by Eugenie Rocherolle on two pianos.
