2018 Feb 5

Trine University sophomore Jenna Gales (Mendon, Mich./Mendon) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Track and Field "Athlete of the Week."

Gales posted a pair of top-five finishes, including winning the 400-meter dash, as the Thunder finished second in the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic over the weekend hosted by Trine.

In the 400-meter, Gales crossed the finish line in a winning time of 59.97 seconds. Her time in the event ranked as the best so far this season amongst MIAA athletes and also ranks as the fourth fastest in the region.

Gales placed fourth in the 200-meter dash event posting a time of 26.83 seconds, which was the third quickest mark in the MIAA to date.

In addition to her efforts in the 200 and 400-meter events, Gales tied her season-best time in the 60-meter dash at 8.31 seconds which she ran in the prelims.

The track and field team will be idle until the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 24 with Trine serving as the host site. The first events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
