Holmquist named Academic All-District

Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named to the 2015-16 Capital One Academic All-District? Men's Basketball Team.

Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) was named to the first-team for Academic District 7, which includes Division III schools in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. The Capital One Academic All-District? teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Holmquist will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America? Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in early March.

The recognition adds to a list of accolades Holmquist has earned for his performance on the court and in the classroom. Holmquist has excelled off the court in his time at Trine, earning a 3.90 G.P.A. as an accounting major. He has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll three times for achieving at least a 3.50 G.P.A and earning a varsity letter. He has also been named to Trine University's president's list.

On the court, Holmquist has earned a string of accolades this season. He has earned national recognition in being named the DIII News Player of the Month for November and has earned weekly national honors on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week. Holmquist has also been honored as MIAA Player of the Week twice this season.

Holmquist has followed up his All-MIAA campaign from a year ago with an even better senior season. The forward's 163 made field goals entering the week ranked 29th in the nation. He leads the MIAA in averaging 20.9 points per game, while his 9.1 rebounds per contest rank second. Holmquist also leads the conference with nine double-doubles and an .862 free throw percentage.

Trine holds a 15-7 overall record and is tied for fourth in the MIAA with a 5-6 mark in league action. The Thunder travel north to face No. 13 Alma this Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

The Academic All-District? teams include student-athletes representing eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division All-America? Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
