Holmquist named DIII News Player of the Month

Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named the DIII News Player of the Month, the publication announced Wednesday.

Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) has played an instrumental role in leading the Thunder to a 4-1 start. The senior ranks second in the MIAA in averaging a team-best 22.4 points per game on 53 percent shooting. Holmquist is also contributing 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 steals per game, showcasing the all-around abilties that made him an All-MIAA First Team performer last season. Per the latest NCAA statistics report released Monday, Holmquist ranks 16th in the nation in total field goals made, 41st in total points and 45th in points per game.

The recognition adds to Holmquist's early-season accolades, which have also included MIAA Player of the Week honors. Holmquist was recognized for his work in the opening week of the season, during which he averaged 28.5 points and 11 rebounds in leading Trine to victories over Heidelberg and North Park. He notched double-doubles in each game and racked up three such performances in the month of November.

Holmquist's performance in the opening month also saw the senior reach the career milestone of 1,000 points. He is the fifth player to achieve that milestone since Trine joined NCAA Division III in 2004. Holmquist ranks fourth in scoring at Trine during that time span.

Trine returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Anderson. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
