Holmquist named MIAA Player of the Week

Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named the MIAA Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) averaged 24 points per game on 50 percent shooting in leading the Thunder to victories over Anderson and Great Lakes Christian last week. The senior added 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in the two contests. He totaled 32 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in Wednesday's 82-63 victory at Anderson. Holmquist followed that up with 16 points and 14 rebounds in Saturday's 78-52 win over Great Lakes Christian. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career.

The Player of the Week honor is the latest in a string of accolades Holmquist has earned early this season. In addition to his two conference honors, he was named DIII News Player of the Month for November. Holmquist also earned All-Tournament Team recognition in helping Trine win the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational.

Holmquist ranks among the MIAA leaders in numerous categories. His 10.1 rebounds per game lead the conference, while his 22.9 points per night rank second. The senior's four double-doubles are tied for the conference lead. He is also tied for fourth in steals, and ranks second in blocks and fifth in free throw percentage.

With Holmquist's honor, a Trine player has now won three of the first four MIAA Player of the Week honors this season. The Thunder are off to a 6-1 start for the team's best seven-game start since the 2010-11 season.

Trine will host the St. Andrews Products Classic this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19-20 in Hershey Hall. The Thunder will play host to Adrian, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Millikin, which have combined for a 16-8 record. Trine will face Millikin Saturday at 7 p.m., followed by Oshkosh Sunday at 3 p.m.
