2016 Mar 15

Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, the organization announced Monday.

Holmquist earned the first All-Region nod of his career with the selection. The recognition adds to an ever-growing list of accolades for the senior, highlighted by his selection as the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-American? of the Year for men's basketball. Holmquist is Trine's first All-Region honoree since Ian Jackson in 2012-13 and the program's second All-Region performer since joining NCAA Division III in 2004.

Holmquist also wrapped up a second-consecutive All-MIAA First Team honor this winter. His accolades this season also included three MIAA Player of the Week awards, DIII News Player of the Month honors in November and recognition on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.

Holmquist was also one of 10 men's finalists for the 2016 Jostens Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball player who excels on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

This season, Holmquist ranked among the nation's best in numerous statistical categories. His 216 made field goals were 18th-most in the country, while his scoring average of 21.5 points per game ranked 31st. He also ranked 19th in the nation in total points scored, 30th in minutes played, 30th in free throws made and 39th in free throw percentage.

Holmquist's efforts produced 1,538 career points, the ninth-most in team history. Along the way, Holmquist started more games than any player on record in program history. He ranks second on the team's all-time list in blocks and third in rebounds.

Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The men's All-American team will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's championships.

This is the 15th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 19th annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
