Holmquist named to D3Hoops.com Team of the Week

Trine's Jared Holmquist has been named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Holmquist (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) earned the recognition after notching double-doubles in victories over Manchester and Ohio Northern this week. The senior notched 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in a 76-73 overtime victory over the Spartans. He followed that up with 23 points, 10 rebounds, a career-high six assists and three steals in a 78-72 victory over the Polar Bears. This the first time Holmquist has been honored on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week in his career.

After an All-MIAA campaign last year, Holmquist has established himself as one of the top post players in the nation in his senior campaign. Holmquist's seven double-doubles are tied for sixth-most in the nation. He has notched double-doubles in four of the last five games and has 19 in his career.

Holmquist's 21.2 points per game are second in the MIAA and rank 43rd in the nation. He leads the MIAA and ranks 21st in the country in averaging 10.6 rebounds per game. The senior could become just the second player in program history to average over 10 points and 10 rebounds per game in a season.

The honor is the latest in a string of recogntions Holmquist has earned this season. He was named the DIII News Player of the Month for November and has also earned two MIAA Player of the Week honors.

Trine is off to a 10-1 start and is ranked 23rd in the nation by D3Hoops.com. The national ranking is the team's first since joining NCAA Division III in 2004.

The Thunder hit the road to face defending MIAA-champion Calvin in the conference opener this Wednesday, Jan. 6. Tip-off in Van Noord Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. The Knights enter the contest with a 5-6 overall record.
