Nine Named to All-MIAA Football Teams
Nine members of the Trine University football team have been named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the association announced today. Three members of the team were selected to the first team while six made an appearance on the second team. Jamon Gibson was the lone defensive member of the Thunder to earn first team honors. The senior was once again a monster on the edge, leading the team with 8.5 sacks and finish the conference season second in the MIAA with 6.5. He broke the Trine career record for sacks during the season and added to that total to finish his career with 24. Gibson led the conference with 13 tackles for a loss during conference play while leading the team overall with 16.5. He also totaled two interceptions. Alexander Lewis and Jackson Linback both represented the Thunder on first team offense after their time in the trenches as members of the starting offensive line. The two seniors anchored the line that helped the team average 159 rushing yards per game, up to 166.7 during just conference games, while allowing just 1.4 sacks per game, with a total of 14. Three members of the team represented the offensive side of the ball on second team, including running back Xaine Kirby and wide receivers Brandon Kline and Kale Lawson. Kirby led the team with 710 yards rushing during the season. In conference play he finished with 392, fourth most among MIAA runners, for an average of 65.3 yards per game, third best. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry during MIAA play, tied for third on the leaderboard. Kline and Lawson both turned in top-ten performances during MIAA play. Lawson ended those games with 506 yards and an average of 84.3 yards per game, both fourth best in the conference. His 18.1 yards per catch was third best. Kline finished with 356 yards for 59.3 yards per game, both eighth best in the MIAA. His 13.2 yards per catch was tenth in the conference. The final three selections to second team all came on the defensive side of the ball, with a player representing the team at each level. The lone defensive back to be recognized for the team was senior Joseph Johnson. He finished the conference portion of the season with 50 tackles, fourth most in the conference. He led the team with 76 tackles for the entire season and forced a pair of fumbles, also a team high. In the middle of the defense, Tucker Hasselman was named one of the linebacker selections to second team. The junior finished the season with 51 tackles the second most on the team. His 30 tackles during conference play were top-30 in the conference. Kendall Himes rounded out the delegation from his interior line spot. The senior finished the season with 45 tackles, third most on the team. He added five sacks, second most on the team, and seven tackles for a loss, third best.

Organ Named Star of the Week by NCHA
The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced their Three Stars of the Week, with junior Tim Organ of Lambertville, Michigan, representing the Trine University men's hockey program. Before the beginning of the season, the NCHA announced that rather than choosing an offensive and defensive player of the week they would instead select the three starts of the week, mirroring the traditional three stars of the game. Organ becomes the first member of the Thunder to earn the new award. It is the first time that he has earned any NCHA weekly award. Organ helped lead the way for Trine to secure two wins over the University of Dubuque by scoring a team-high five points. On Friday, Nov. 3, he assisted on the game winning goal before scoring his own in the third period. Then on Saturday he finished the night with another goal and two assists.

Madison Dominick Named Second Team All-MIAA
Madison Dominick of the Trine University women's volleyball team has earned Second Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors following a breakout season. It is her first career all-conference award. Dominick, a junior outside hitter from Swartz Creek, Michigan, had 2.68 kills per set during the MIAA season, good for ninth in the league. In total, Dominick secured 75 kills in her eight matches and 28 sets played as well as 15 blocks (one solo). In the MIAA opener versus Adrian College, Dominick secured a new career-high with 17 kills. This closed a run of four consecutive matches with double-digit kill numbers. She would go on a similar scoring spree in the final stretch of the 2023 season with 15 kills and 11 kills in the regular season finale matches against Alma College and The University of Olivet as well as 10 more in the MIAA Tournament First Round contest at Adrian. Throughout the season, Dominick led a balanced Thunder offense with 189 kills (2.36 kills per set). She hit .191 with 66 digs, 53 blocks (four solo), eight assists and two aces. She had one double-double this season against Grove City College. Dominick threw down 14 kills and dug out 12 opposing attacks.

Sidney Wagner Named D3hoops.com Preseason All-American
Junior guard Sidney Wagner of the Trine University women's basketball team has been selected to the 2023-24 D3hoops.com Women's Basketball Preseason All-America team. Wagner was selected as a Second Team All-American heading into the season. The Warsaw, Indiana native was a D3hoops.com Third Team All-American one season ago following a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season championship and appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Wagner was also First Team All-Region in 2022-23 as well as the MIAA Most Valuable Player, the second in school history. Wagner appeared in all 30 games and made 20 starts for the Thunder as a sophomore. She averaged 14.9 points per game to lead the team and was a stout 49.4% from the field and 37.4% from deep. Along with her scoring numbers, Wagner secured an average of 4.7 rebounds per game, distributed 2.7 assists per game and recorded 2.2 steals per game. As a team, Trine went 23-7 overall with NCAA Tournament wins against Washington University out of Missouri and Loras College in Iowa. The Thunder were 14-2 in conference play last season and 10-2 inside the MTI Center.
