Annual gaming event will raise money for Humane Shelter

ANGOLA (03/25/2019) — Trine University's esports program and Department of Humanities and Communication will present the fourth annual Playing for Pets fundraiser for the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, March 29.

The 24-hour event will be live-streamed on the Twitch channel for Trine University esports at twitch.tv/trineuniversity_esports. Trine faculty, staff and students will play console, PC, role-playing and board games in the esports arena and nearby hallway inside the MTI Center throughout the event.

A link to make donations to the Humane Shelter will appear on the Trine esports Twitch page during the event. All money raised will go to support the shelter.

Now the world's fastest-growing sport, esports - competitive, organized, multiplayer online gaming - is exploding in popularity at the collegiate level. Trine University's was one of the first varsity esports programs in the country, offering a state-of-the-art arena used as a model by university programs around the nation.

Trine currently fields teams in League of Legends, Overwatch, CS:GO, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, HearthStone and Rocket League, with plans to add teams in Rainbow Six Siege, Smash Bros, Fortnite and PUBG. Trine's Overwatch team finished third in the nation in the National Association of College Esports (NACE) last year.
