Boo Cancer events at Trine support local boy
Angola, IN (10/09/2018) — Trine University's Gamma Phi Epsilon sorority is hosting its annual Boo Cancer philanthropy event on Oct. 26 to benefit a local 9-year-old boy, Jayden White.
Jayden White, from LaGrange, Indiana, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in March 2018. One of the most common types of bone cancer, Osteosarcoma accounts for about 3 percent of cancers that occur in children. While other cancers can eventually spread to the skeleton, osteosarcoma actually begins in the bones and can later spread to other parts of the body.
Right after his diagnosis, Jayden underwent 10 weeks of chemotherapy before his total hip replacement in late June of this year. He is currently undergoing an additional 50 rounds of chemotherapy treatments but unfortunately, his cancer has begun spreading to his lungs.
On Oct. 26 the sisters of Gamma Phi Epsilon will host their annual Boo
Cancer Carnival from 6-8 p.m. in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center on the Trine campus. The carnival will feature games, costumes, trickor-treating, food, and other family fun. Cost for the event is $3 per child or $10 for families with 4 or more children. T-shirts also will be sold during the carnival.
In addition to the carnival, on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, Gamma Phi Epsilon and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity will team up for a Haunted House at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house, 115 S. Darling St., Angola, from 7-10 p.m. each night. Cost is $3 for members of the community.
The sisters of Gamma Phi Epsilon are hoping to raise more than $10,000 for the White family.
All proceeds from both events will go to help cover the cost of chemotherapy treatments, other medical bills, and hospital stays for Jayden and his family.
