Book collection underway for annual HAC Book Night
ANGOLA (03/22/2018) — Books are being collected at locations around the Trine University campus and the city of Angola for the Department of Humanities and Communication's annual HAC Book Night on Thursday, April 19.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 5-9 p.m. in the Rick L. & Vicki L. James University Center mall, which will have tables of books for community members, students and Trine staff to browse and take several for free. Refreshments also will be provided.
Last year more than 1,000 books were given away to about 300 Trine University students and staff as well as members of the community.
A drawing for prize packages that include new books and related DVDs will be held. Packages include:
Environmental Disasters and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction: The Road by Cormac McCarthy, The Road (film), The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood;
Just for Kids: Pete's Dragon (film), The Lorax (book), Rachel Carson and Her Book That Changed The World by Laurie Lawlor;
Women and Nature: Wild by Cheryl Strayed, Wild (film), State of Wonder by Ann Patchett.
The department is accepting donations of books in the weeks leading up to the event. Donation boxes are located across the Trine University campus as well as at the First United Congregational Church of Christ, Calvary Lutheran Church, Cahoots, Caleo Café and Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County in Angola.
Books not taken during the event are donated to Better World Books.
HAC Book Night began as part of the international World Book Night event. After that broader event ended, HAC Book Night continued and has been celebrated on Trine's campus since 2013.
