Community invited to Trine Homecoming and Family Weekend events

ANGOLA (10/02/2018) — Trine University will celebrate its annual Homecoming and Family Weekend this weekend, Oct. 5-7. Many events are open to the community, and area residents are invited to participate.

The university's annual Thunder 5k Walk/Run starts at 8:15 a.m. Saturday under the Ryan Skywalk. The $10 registration fee includes a rally towel and an Italian ice from Sunset Slush. Early registration begins at 7:30 a.m., or register in advance at trine.edu/homecoming.

Children of all ages will find free entertainment in the Thunder Zone from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the lawn by Zollner Athletic Stadium. Activities include large inflatables, a caricature artist, food trucks and DJ music.

Also beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday is the Tour de Trine tricycle race. All are invited to watch and cheer along Thunder Drive as teams of current Trine University students compete in the annual event.

At noon Saturday, Trine's Department of Humanities and Communication will host a reception with light refreshments in Wells Gallery inside Taylor Hall, in advance of a presentation by Rebecca Baumann, head of public services for Indiana University's Lilly Library. Baumann's talk, titled, "Stitched and Bound: Frankenstein and the Book," will begin at 1 p.m. in Wells Theater. Part of the Indiana Humanities One State/One Story: Frankenstein program, the presentation examines not only the birth of the novel but also its reception, emphasizing how physical formats changed the way readers have understood the story of the monster within. Both events are free.

The Thunder football team takes on conference rival Alma Scots, with kickoff at 1 p.m. Saturday. Before the game, celebrate alumni award winners and 2018 athletic hall of fame inductees. During halftime, enjoy a performance from the Sound of Thunder and High Voltage Dance Team. Tickets are $7 general admission, $3 for senior citizens and children under 18.

Tickets for the Travis Tritt concert scheduled at 8 p.m. Saturday in the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts have sold out.
