Paintings celebrate Trine ice hockey

ANGOLA (02/08/2018) — David and Angie Carlson of St. Charles, Illinois, parents of Trine University women's hockey player Briana Carlson, donated two oil paintings of the Thunder Ice Arena by Ukranian artist Vitali Mikhailov to Trine University prior to the final regular-season home hockey game on Feb. 3. Pictured, from left, are: Trine women's hockey Coach Tom Hofman, Mike Ferrell, ice arena manager; David Carlson; Angie Carlson; Lisa Maxwell-Frieden; vice president for alumni and development; and Briana Carlson. The paintings, commissioned in celebration of the inaugural season of Thunder Ice Hockey, will hang in the ice arena's President's Suite.

Noted for his Renaissance style and quality of his artwork, Mikhailov is featured in prominent collections worldwide and has done paintings for the Naval Academy, Clinton Presidential Library and multiple embassies.

Briana Carlson, a freshman forward at Trine, has played in 17 games in the Thunder's inaugural season, contributing goals against Finlandia and Northland.
