Trine Class of 2018 sees 99.7 percent employed or in grad school

ANGOLA, Ind. (12/12/2018) — Trine University's employment rate for graduates continues to remain above 99 percent, well above regional and national averages for public and peer schools.

Six months after graduation, 99.7 percent of the Trine University Class of 2018 was employed or in graduate school, according to statistics compiled by the university's Career Center.

This marks the fifth year in a row the university's graduates have achieved an employment rate of 98.8 percent or above. Trine's five-year rolling average of employment for graduates is 99.4 percent.

"Our employment outcomes increasingly demonstrate the dividends paid by the wise investment families make in a Trine University education," said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., Trine University president. "Through a unique combination of small class sizes, dedicated faculty, career-focused majors and practical experience, Trine University continues to fulfill its mission of preparing graduates to lead, succeed and serve."

Out of Trine's Class of 2018, 96.4 percent are employed or in a graduate school area related to their major. Twenty-four percent are enrolled in graduate school.

The number of Trine University graduates choosing to work in the region also continues to increase. The Great Lakes region - defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin - employs 90.5 percent of the Class of 2018, up more than 4 percent from the previous year. The state of Indiana has 59.4 percent of the Trine graduates working there, up more than 2 percent from the Class of 2017.

Trine's employment figures are well above average figures for the Class of 2017 recently released by NACE. According to NACE's First Destinations report, 84.4 percent of graduates nationwide were employed or in graduate school, more than 15 percent below Trine's figures.

Trine's 99.7 employment rate also compared favorably to:

  • 88.4 percent of graduates from colleges in the Great Lakes region employed or in graduate school.
  • 90.7 percent of graduates from colleges with similar enrollment to Trine.
  • 91.0 percent of graduates from private colleges.
  • 80.1 percent of graduates from public colleges.

"Many Trine students already have jobs lined up months before graduation," said Jason Blume, executive director of Innovation One, which includes the Career Center. "Through opportunities such as career fairs, networking and mock interview events, and assistance with resumes and cover letters, Trine's career services staff helps students build on the academic training and practical experience they receive so they are ready to begin their careers once they complete their degree."

Earlier this year, Trine University's Franks School of Education announced its sixth straight year of 100 percent employment for its graduates.
