Trine Day an opportunity to celebrate, support university

ANGOLA (04/02/2018) — Though subtitled "A Day of Giving," Trine Day is about more than financial support, according to Steven Nicolet, director of annual giving.

"We want this to be a day where people can celebrate the university," Nicolet said. "We hope that in addition to raising support for the university and student scholarships, Trine Day also will increase campus pride and become an annual tradition."

That celebration, which will be held over the 24 hours of Friday, April 13, will include a social media element and opportunities for competition among Trine student organizations. During Trine Day, the university will seek to raise $90,000 with a goal of 400 donors participating, with results updated live at trine.edu/trineday.

Student, alumni and all friends of the university will be encouraged on April 13 to post photos of themselves wearing Trine gear on social media with #TrineDay.

Special matching gifts will offer incentives for financial support. Gifts by first-time donors will be matched at a 3:1 ratio, while gifts made by parents of current Trine students will be matched up to $5,000.

There will be fun elements to the fundraising as well. Several Trine faculty and staff members will take half-hour shifts in a dunk tank outside the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with dunks being streamed via Facebook Live on Trine's alumni Facebook page.

Trine students - or anyone who wants to participate - will pay $1 per ball, which will be added to the Trine Day total. The faculty or staff member who hits the water the most times over their shift will be able to direct $1,500 toward the campus area of his or her choice.

Inside the University Center, a donor wall will feature Trine's ubiquitous Power T's available for $1 each, which also will go toward the day's total. Students who purchase a T can write the name of their organization on it, with the winning organization given $500 to put toward the campus area of its choice.

Those who donate $100 or more during Trine Day will receive a pair of Trine argyle socks. To make a gift during Trine Day, visit trine.edu/trineday or call (844) 665-GIVE.
