Trine engineering solutions on display Friday

ANGOLA (04/25/2018) — Trine University engineering seniors will display their solutions to problems ranging from stowing a pontoon ladder to traversing other planets at the university's 16th annual Engineering Design Expo from 1-3 p.m. Friday, April 27.

Hosted by the Allen School of Engineering and Technology, the expo will feature 41 projects on display throughout the hallways of Fawick Hall and the Jim and Joan Bock Center for Innovation and Biomedical Engineering.

Among the projects on display will be a concept for a motorized telescoping pontoon ladder and a component to better separate fuel and air in turbine engines. Updates to previous projects including a cell phone attachment that conducts multiple blood tests and a prototype sled for Pokagon State Park also will be exhibited.

Trine University teams also will showcase vehicles that recently competed in design competitions including a NASA Mars Rover, fuel-efficient vehicles and a basic utility vehicle for transport in developing nations.

"The Engineering Design Expo gives the Trine community and the general public the opportunity to see how Trine engineering students have applied what they have learned at Trine to real-world projects," said Timothy Tyler, Ph.D., dean of the Allen School of Engineering and Technology.

Industrial partners for the expo include Blaire Biomedical, Wishbone Medical, Engineers Without Borders, M & S Steel, Industrial Contracting and Engineering, Perry Products, Halex Co., Triton Metal Products, Heartland Global Services, Keystone RV Company, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Metal Technologies, Vestil Manufacturing, DENSO Foundation, Foundry Educational Foundation, Indiana Space Grant Consortium, JR Automation Technologies, Pokagon State Park, Rolls-Royce, Tenneco Inc. Clevite Elastomer Division, Tower Advertising, Integrated Device Technology, Kokosing Industrial and Shambaugh & Son.
