Trine hosting first Women in Criminal Justice event

ANGOLA (02/28/2019) — Trine University will host its first Women in Criminal Justice symposium, themed, "Challenges, Changes and Careers," from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13.

The free event, which includes lunch, is open to women high school age or older who are seeking or already have a career in law enforcement, courts or the judiciary, or corrections.

Leslie Cochran-Timm, a senior special agent with the U.S. Secret Service, will serve as keynote speaker for the event. Cochran-Timm earned a degree in criminal justice at Tri-State University, now Trine, in 1995 and has served with the U.S. Secret Service for more than 23 years. Assigned to the Presidential Protective Division in 2003 during the Presidency of George W. Bush, she has protected U.S. President Donald Trump, former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, Vice President Al Gore, former Vice President Dick Cheney and heads of state from Israel, Iran, Jordan, Poland, Russia, Great Britain, Fiji, Haiti, Barbados, Cameroon, Korea and several other countries.

When not detailed to a temporary protection assignment, Cochran-Timm conducts protective intelligence investigations regarding threats toward current and past presidents as well as criminal investigations such as counterfeit, bank fraud and identity theft.

The event also will include panels featuring representatives from law enforcement, judicial and corrections professions, and opportunities to network and learn about career and education pathways.

The event is sponsored by Trine University's TAO Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association, the university's Department of Criminal Justice and the Admission Office. For more information, visit trine.edu/womenincj.
