Trine jazz ensembles in concert Nov. 11

ANGOLA (11/05/2018) — Trine University's jazz ensembles, under the direction of Brian Derek, adjunct music faculty, will present their fall concert beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Combo will perform "Autumn Leaves" by Johnny Mercer, "Crystal Silence" by Chick Corea, "Misty" by Errol Garner, "Footprints" by Wayne Shorter, "Take Five" by Paul Desmond and "Well You Needn't" by Thelonious Monk.

Combo members are: senior Joshua Bowman of Zionsville, Indiana, on alto saxophone; freshman Garrett Howell of Brownsburg, Indiana, on tenor saxophone; sophomore Donovan Hall of Kokomo, Indiana, on piano; junior Isaac Nice of Paulding, Ohio, on drums; and Prof. Derek on bass.

The Big Band will perform "St. Louis Blues" by W.C.Handy, arranged by John Denton; "In The Mood" by Joe Garland; "Take Five" by Paul Desmond, arranged by Dave Wolpe; "Land Of Make Believe" by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Victor Lopez; "Man In The Mirror" by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett, arranged by Roger Holmes; "Tiger Of San Pedro" by John La Barbera, arranged by Paul Lavender; "My Funny Valentine" by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, arranged by Dave Wolpe; "What Is Hip?" by Stephen Kupka, Emilio Castillo and David Garibaldi, arranged by Paul Murtha; "'Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk and Cootie Williams, arranged by Victor Lopez; and "Children Of Sanchez" by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Victor Lopez.
