Trine jazz ensembles present spring concert April 16

ANGOLA (04/04/2019) — Trine University's jazz ensembles, under the direction of Prof. Brian Derek, adjunct music faculty, will present their spring concert beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Combo will perform "Norwegian Wood" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "Desafinado" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, "Mr. PC" by John Coltrane, "Four" by Miles Davis and "The Chicken" by PeeWee Ellis.

Combo members are Joshua Bowman, a senior chemical engineering major from Zionsville, Indiana, on alto saxophone; Donovan Hall, a sophomore biomedical engineering major from Kokomo, Indiana, on piano; Isaac Nice, a senior chemical engineering major from Paulding, Ohio, on drums; and Micah Maxson, a sophomore civil engineering major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on bass.

The Big Band will perform "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" by Cole Porter, arranged by Dave Wolpe; "Wave" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Philip Mossman; " 'Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk, arranged by Victor Lopez; "Children Of Sanchez" by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Victor Lopez; "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix, arranged by Roger Holmes; "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul, arranged by John Higgins; "Stormy Weather" by Harold Arlen, arranged by Mark Taylor; and "It Don't Mean A Thing (if it ain't got that swing)" by Duke Ellington, arranged by Mark Taylor.

Big Band members are Joel Galloy, a senior chemical engineering major from Glenwood, Illinois, on first alto saxophone; James Gamage, a junior software engineering major from Zionsville, Indiana, on second alto saxophone; Garrett Howell, a sophomore biomedical engineering major from Brownsburg, Indiana, on first tenor saxophone; Leam Armstrong, a freshman computer engineering major from Chesterton, Indiana, on second tenor saxophone; Adam Griswold, a senior software engineering major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on baritone saxophone; Adam McHenry, a senior biomedical engineering major from Zionsville, Indiana, and Jackson Billings, a sophomore sport management major from Churubusco, Indiana, on first trumpet; Vance Burnau, a senior chemical engineering major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on second trumpet; Drew Furman, a junior chemical engineering major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on third trumpet; Brian Kreps, a sophomore criminal justice major from Tecumseh, Michigan, and Connor Moon, a sophomore biomedical engineering major from Toledo, Ohio, on fourth trumpet; Joshua Dick, a senior electrical engineering major from South Bend, Indiana, on first trombone; Katie Simon, a junior exercise science/pre-physical therapy major from Paw Paw, Michigan, on second trombone; Alex Rushing, a freshman mechanical engineering major from Hillsdale, Michigan, and Jacob Dougherty, a sophomore chemical engineering major from Nappanee, Indiana, on third trombone; TJ Jensen, a junior chemical engineering major from Goshen, Indiana, on fourth trombone; Maxson on bass; and Isaac Sheehan, a junior electrical engineering major from Rushville, Indiana, on drums.
