Trine jazz ensembles present spring concert April 21

ANGOLA (04/10/2018) — Trine University's jazz ensembles, under the direction of Prof. Brian Derek, adjunct music faculty, will present their fall concert beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Combo will perform "Watch What Happens" by Michel LeGrand, "All Blues" by Miles Davis, "The Chicken" by Pee Wee Ellis, "Yesterday" by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "Out of Nowhere" by Johnny Green and Edward Heyman, and "Well you Needn't" by Thelonious Monk.

Combo members are senior Joshua Bowman on alto saxophone, freshman Garrett Hunter on trumpet, freshman Jake Garcia on piano, senior Austin Crouse on drums and Prof. Derek on bass.

The Big Band will perform "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, arranged by Peter Blaire; "Land of Make Believe" by Chuck Mangoine, arranged by Victor Lopez; "Man in the Mirror" by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett, arranged by Roger Holmes; "500 Miles High" by Chick Corea, arranged by Mark Taylor; "Earth, Wind and Fire Dance Mix," arranged by Paul Murtha; "Children of Sanchez" by Chuck Mangione, arranged by Victor Lopez; "Take Five" by Paul Desmond, arranged by Dave Wolpe; "What is Hip?" by Stephen Kupka, Emilio Castillo and David Garibaldi, arranged by Paul Murtha; and "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul, arranged by John Higgins.

Big Band members are junior Adam Griswold on baritone saxophone; senior John Milostan and junior Bradly King on alto saxophone; sophomore Joel Galloy on tenor saxophone; sophomores Joshua Dick and TJ Jensen on trombone; sophomore Bern Woon on bass trombone; senior Vance Burnau, sophomore Adam McHenry and freshmen Jackson Billings, Garrett Hunter, Drew Furman, Joanna Robinson and Alex Kromkowski on trumpet; freshman Jake Garcia on piano; freshman Lucas Harmon on drums; and Prof. Derek on bass.
