Trine students, faculty participate in ASEE section conference
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (04/02/2019) — Five faculty and two students from Trine University's Allen School of Education and Technology attended the annual Illinois-Indiana Section Conference for the American Society for Engineering Education, held March 22-23 at the University of Evansville.
The conference, themed "Reaching Tomorrow's Engineer Today," included research paper presentations, poster sessions for undergraduate and graduate students, a regional industry panel session and workshops for K-12 educators.
Kevin Molyet, Ph.D., associate professor in the Wade Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, presented a paper on "Providing a Meaningful Lab Experience for a Manufacturing Processes Course," while Jamie Canino, Ph.D., associate professor in the Wade Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Tom Trusty, associate dean of engineering technology, participated in the conference as section officers.
Senior design engineering technology (DET) majors Levi Holdcroft, from Muncie, Indiana, and Logan Dorgelo, from Auburn, Indiana, presented their poster on developing an Extruder Cooling Line for Trine University's Plastics Lab. The pair were part of a team that also included senior DET majors Phillip Staab, from Marshall, Michigan, and Zachary Richardson, from Marion, Indiana, who were unable to attend the conference.
Timothy Jenkins, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Design Engineering Technology, traveled with the student team to the conference. Kevin Woolverton, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also attended.
"Faculty in Trine University's Allen School of Engineering and Technology have been very involved at both the regional and national level in the American Society of Engineering Education, where they both learn about the advancements in engineering education and add to research in engineering education by presenting posters and papers at various conferences," said Canino. "These activities help highlight all of the great work that is going in engineering and technology here at Trine."
