Trine University, First Wayne Street UMC choirs join for 'Seven Last Words'
FORT WAYNE (03/13/2018) — The Trine University Choir will join choirs at the First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, 300 E. Wayne St., Fort Wayne, for "A Palm Sunday Choral Concert: Seven Last Words" beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25.
The performance will be free and open to the public, with a free-will offering collected.
Hosted by the church as part of its Adventures in the Musical Arts concert series, the event will include a full concert featuring the Trine University Choir, First Wayne Street UMC Sanctuary Choir and Chamber Choir individually as well as jointly in the first half, performing choral works from composers including Ola Gjeilo, Alice Parker and Craig Hella Johnson.
During the second half, the combined choirs will perform Seven Last Words by distinguished American composer Michael J. Trotta, described as a "seven-movement choral journey through the Passion, which delivers a powerful and captivating story encompassing a breathtaking palette of emotion, from intimate tenderness to majestic triumph."
The choirs will be directed by Geoffrey North, D.M., director of music at the church and director of vocal music at Trine University. They will be accompanied by an ensemble featuring Fort Wayne Philharmonic musicians and Jonathan Mann, D.M.A., of IPFW on piano.
First Wayne Street United Methodist Church is committed to offering the best in the musical arts through free Adventures in the Musical Arts concerts and in regular 10 a.m. Sunday worship services.
