Trine presents awards to faculty, staff

ANGOLA - (05/16/2017) — Trine University honored faculty and staff members with awards during its annual commencement breakfast on May 13.

Several faculty received the McKetta-Smith Excellence in Teaching Awards, established for the faculty by trustee emeritus and 1937 alumnus Dr. John J. McKetta in 1989:

  • Michael Blaz, Ph.D., professor of psychology, received the Professor Gerald H. Moore Overall Excellence in Teaching Award and the Robert Andrew and Anne Ewing Smith Excellence in Teaching Award in Arts and Sciences.
  • Shane Steele, D.P.T., assistant professor in the Rinker-Ross School of Health Sciences, received the Helen Smith McKetta Excellence in Teaching Award.
  • Alison Witte, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences, received the Robert Ewing and Gail Stewart Smith Excellence in Teaching Award in Arts and Sciences.
  • Steven Dulaney, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry, received the Merle J. and Anna Mae McKetta Thomas Excellence in Teaching Award in Arts and Sciences.
  • Melanie Watson, Ph.D., associate professor in the Allen School of Engineering and Technology, received the Charles and Sue Ragan Gelet Excellence in Teaching Award in Engineering.
  • Sean Carroll, Ph.D., chair and professor of electrical engineering, received the Steve and Mary Yacynch McKetta Excellence in Teaching Award in Engineering.
  • Pavan Karra, Ph.D., associate professor in the Allen School of Engineering and Technology, received the Frank and Julia Gelet McKetta Excellence in Teaching Award in Engineering.
  • John Patton, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Allen School of Engineering and Technology, received the John J. and Mary Gelet McKetta Excellence in Teaching Award in Engineering.
  • Kelly Trusty, Ph.D., associate professor in the Ketner School of Business, received the Charles William, Nelle Paris and Mary Ann McKetta Excellence in Teaching Award in Business.

The Faculty Scholarship Award was presented to Sarah Young, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences. The Academic Service Award was presented to Max Baumgartner, Ph.D., dean of the Rinker-Ross School of Health Sciences.

Thomas Ruediger, DPT, associate professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, was honored with the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award. Outstanding Adjunct awards were presented to Adelle Schwan in the School of Professional Studies, Lou Ann Homan on the main campus and Von Plessner in the graduate school.

The President's Award for Excellence in Performance was given to staff members Nancy Roberts, assistant to the vice president for development, and Beth Tagtmeyer, student accounts manager.
