For four female engineering students from Trine University, WE19, the annual conference of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), was the chance of a lifetime.

On Jan. 30, the pool at the YMCA of Steuben County had something moving around that wasn't one of the regular swimmers. Students from Steuben County 4-H, under the direction of students from Trine University's Robotics Club, were testing the SeaPerch underwater robot they had built.

From Oct. 18-20, five Trine students traveled to the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, for the NASA International Space Apps annual "hackathon." According to NASA, the event includes 29,000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries. Trine students, along with other participants, had two days to develop and present solutions to various challenges assigned to them at the event.

Several students have been honored for projects presented at Trine University's third annual STEM Research and Design Symposium, held Dec. 6 on the concourse of the MTI Center.

A Trine University sophomore was among 30 first-generation college students recognized at the 30th annual "Realizing the Dream" banquet hosted by the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) on Nov. 2.

Defensemen Nick Ludeman and Jake Hatten and forwards Joe Laskero and Christian Wirth-Karbler were part of the ACHA M2 Select Team that competed in the third annual Student Hockey Challenge, held Oct. 1-6 in Barnaul, Russia.

The Trine University Choir and the university's Chamber Orchestra will present their fall concert in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts beginning at 3 p.m. Oct. 27. The concert is free and open to the public.

Trine University recognized its 2019 Homecoming court as well as its king and queen during the annual Thunderstruck Pep Rally in the MTI Center on Oct. 4.

The Trine University Drama Club has announced the cast for its upcoming production of "The Importance of Being Earnest." The play will be performed Nov. 14-15 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts. Performances are free, with seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Zachary J. Anderson, a Trine University freshman from Crestwood, Illinois, has won a $1,000 SAGE Scholars scholarship in a nationwide essay contest. Anderson, a chemical engineering major, was one of the winning 100 scholarship recipients who wrote an exceptional essay.

Will Steffel says he knew nothing about rotorcraft before the summer began, but the Trine University senior learned about them in a big way. The mechanical engineering major from Sherwood, Ohio, completed an internship this past summer at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, working in rotorcraft aeromechanics.
